Job Overview:

  • Responsible to ensure that designated functions for baggage Sorters in the Departure make –up/ arrival break up and QTB sorting areas are efficiently and accurately carried out in accordance with laid down norms.
  • Responsible to ensure that all City Terminal baggage is handled with great care.
  • Responsible for ensuring that baggage requiring special handling are appropriately handled.

Job Requirements:

  •     Minimum Experience of 1 year in airside.
  •     Knowledge of various types of aircraft in operation and compatibility of ULD.
  •     Knowledge of baggage labels, appropriate handling priorities and requirements.
  •     Good knowledge of AVI and other special loads handling.

  •     Preferably with knowledge of IATA codes and world geography.
  •     SSC holder
  •     Knowledge in ULD and aircraft handling.
  •     DGR trained.
  •     Basic computer awareness
  •     Ability to submit reports.
  •     Team skills.
  •     Able to communicate in English.
  •     Arabic knowledge is an advantage.

Job Duties:
  •     Ensure that all staff are aware of the number of movements expected and any disruptions during the period.
  •     Complete staff, baggage belt/chute allocations in consultations with PSO, Duty Officer for departures and in consultation with baggage services and Duty officer for arrivals.
  •     Study all messages and briefing regarding any left behind baggage or instructions regarding baggage requiring special handling and take appropriate actions.
  •     Ensure adherence to instructions for use of OAL units.
  •     In the makeup area, ensure staff are always present at the chute or belt assigned until the flight is closed and all ULD/Trolleys are forwarded to the aircraft at least 30 minutes before STD/ETD.
  •     Ensure city terminal bags are offloaded from trucks and stowed in pre-designated areas.
  •     Ensure analysis of the number of passengers/baggage expected for transfer is readily available and all staff is well briefed of the expect load.
  •     Ensure the bingo sheets are prepared for the required airlines in accordance with instructions issued from time to time and baggage reconciliation procedures are complied with.
  •     Ensure baggage delivery sheets for the ramp agent is prepared and the number of containers /trolleys/BT container details is reflected on the form.
  •     Record the parking bay,ATA and accurate timings of the first and last bags being forwarded for statistics purposes.
  •     Submit detailed reports in case of mishandled /left behind/misconnected baggage.
  •     Ensure all procedures including safety and security procedures and instructions of the carrier, the company or any other appropriate authority are fully adhered to.
