Job Description:
To establish Etihad Airport Services Cargo aviation safety (SMS) and occupational health and safety (OSH) processes and procedures aligned with Etihad Airways policies and processes ensuring compliance with the local and applicable international standards (Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, Abu Dhabi EHSMS Regulatory Framework, UAE Federal Law, ISAGO, IATA Handling Manual, IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, ISO9001, UAE GCAA, customer airlines etc).

To manage the operational aspects of the aviation safety and occupational health & safety of EAS Cargo and monitor compliance with safety standards through proactive and reactive methods; active, passive and intrusive audits, investigations and surveillance as required, and proposing recommendations for improvements.

Job Requirements:
Qualification & Education:

  •     University degree.
  •     Safety Management System qualification
  •     Occupational Health & Safety qualification (IOSH or NEBOSH or Qudorat)
  •     Accident and incident investigation qualification
  •     ISO 14000 and 18000 qualification is an advantage.

  •     Minimum of ten years of aviation experience of which at least five years must be with safety management systems in cargo operations or health & safety.
  •     Direct or indirect experience with audits, safety or occupational health and safety investigations and inspections.
  •     Demonstrated experience in safety management system.
  •     Experience delivering training is an advantage.

  •     Recognized Training in Safety Management System.
  •     Recognized Training in Occupational Health & Safety.
  •     Recognized Safety Investigator Training, which includes investigation techniques, interviewing skills and statement taking, is an advantage.

  •     Knowledge of Corporate Safety Management Systems and associated frameworks.
  •     Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and continuous improvement techniques, measurement and recording.
  •     Understanding of Health and Safety Management system principles.
  •     Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations issued by the UAE Federal and Emirate Regulations, OSHA-EU) is an advantage.
  •     Knowledge of project management is an advantage.
  •     Fluency in English language
  •     High computer literacy (Microsoft Office applications)

Job Responsibilities:
  •     To lead an effective Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) and Safety Management System (SMS) within Etihad Airport Services Cargo ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
  •     To establish proactive methods to review and monitor working practices to prevent safety occurrences, avoid injuries to personnel and prevent aircraft damages ensuring all employees follow standard operating procedures, and environmental and safety practices of the organization.
  •     Develop, plan, organise and manage internal and external safety events such as seminars, workshops, conferences and other safety related events to support the EAS Cargo safety culture ensuring safety is always a priority.
  •     To timely report to the Head of Compliance & Safety EAS, Safety Managers EAS, General Manager EAS Cargo, VP-Corporate Safety & Quality and if required to the Accountable Manager any significant Safety events that lower the Safety of EAS Cargo operations.
  •     To build cordial relationships with statutory bodies and as the management representative, liaise with competent authorities to ensure that EAS Cargo interests are best represented and protected during any incident.
  •     Manages & leads property and facilities risk surveys, inspections, audits (review locations to identify risks to assets from fire, natural & man made hazards & other potential asset damage or business interruption risk) compile reports to the Corporate Safety & Quality department, General Managers, ADAC, Department of Transport, GCAA, other Authorities, insurers & the company with prioritised recommendations for risk improvement.
  •     Ensure all mandatory occurrences and reports are submitted to the appropriate regulatory authorities within the timeline, investigated and root cause dealt with to prevent reoccurrences as per established processes.
  •     To communicate aviation safety and occupational health & safety standards, hazards and risks and continually work with the functional departments of EAS Cargo to maintain acceptable level of compliance and safety in accordance with the Etihad Occupational Health & Safety Management System, Etihad overall Safety Management System.
  •     To respond to cargo occupational health & safety emergencies, operational emergencies and occurrences, conducting investigations as deemed appropriate and in accordance with established procedures.
  •     To ensure the appropriate management of contractors as per EHSMS and the UAE Civil Defense guidelines, ISAGO and Etihad Airways standards.
