About IRENA:
IRENA is an inter-governmental organization, mandated by Governments worldwide to promote the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms or renewable energy. In order to do so, IRENA will facilitate access to all relevant renewable energy. It facilitates and analyses the sharing of best practices and lessons learned regarding policy frameworks, capacity-building activities, available financial mechanisms and relevant technologies on renewable energy.

The purpose of the Junior Professional Associates Programme is to enable talented and promising university graduates and post graduates to gain first-hand experience in the work of IRENA and a deeper insight into the role of the Agency in promoting the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy. The programme offers valuable exposure to IRENA’s main activities and programmatic areas. On occasion, there are also opportunities in support areas such as administration, finance, human resources and public information. The Agency will also benefit from gaining new and motivated members of staff, bringing new skills and perspectives.   The Division of Administration and Management Services (AMS) is responsible for providing the Secretariat with an efficient support in managing its human and financial resource and ensures effective and timely delivery of information technology, procurement and logistical services. With the aim of contributing to the Agency’s efforts ensure full transparency and accountability the IRENA is looking to fill a JPA position in Finance Section.

Note: Salary will depend on qualifications and years of relevant work experience. In addition: a monthly accommodation allowance (USD 1,300); relocation grant upon arrival/separation if relocation involved (USD 1,200); installation grant if relocation involved (USD 1,300); health insurance; other entitlements as applicable.

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in accounting, business administration, finance or related field or a first-level university degree with at least two years of relevant work experience acquired after completion of the required degree. Certification as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent is desirable.

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English is a must. Knowledge of other languages would be of additional benefit.

  • Specific knowledge and experience related to renewable energy options for power grids and buildings, including their cost and performance characteristics, is extremely desirable.

Job Duties:

Under the supervision of the Chief Finance Officer (CFO), the Junior Professional Associate – Finance will perform the following duties:
  •     Monitors mandatory and voluntary contributions from Members and other parties and maintain appropriate records;                                                                           
  •     Prepares communication with relevant financial data for the Members and other parties; prepares monthly IRENA staff payroll ensuring accurate calculation of related benefits and entitlements;
  •     Reviews, analyses and reconciles accounts;  Identifies problem transactions and irregularities in related accounts, resolving them in a timely and effective manner;      
  •     Contributes to accurate and complete accounting and reporting; entering and reviewing records to ensure that relevant records are accurately maintained;                                                             
  •     Reviews and evaluate financial reports from all IRENA;                                                                  
  •     Compiles supporting documentation for items included in the annual financial statements;
  •     Assists in preparing and consolidating financial data for inclusion in the Financial Statements and assist in preparing draft statements;                                                                            
  •     Process various vendor and travel claims as well as billing different accounts;                         
  •     Participates in the development of accounting policies as necessary;                                                
  •     Provides information needed to respond to audit findings;                                           
  •     Perform other related duties as required.
